Ethereum Foundation researcher proposes EIP-9698 proposal to increase Ethereum Gas limit by 100 times in 4 years
According to ChainCatcher, as reported by Cointelegraph, Ethereum Foundation researcher Dankrad Feist proposed the EIP-9698 proposal on April 27, planning to introduce the "Deterministic Gas Cap Growth Plan" starting with Epoch 369017 (around June 1). This is a four-year plan, and the proposal suggests that the limit will incrementally increase by 10 times over the first two years (i.e., 164,250 epochs), until the final additional tenfold increase. Theoretically, if the Gas limit increases 100 times, Ethereum's TPS could potentially rise to 2000 transactions. The proposal requires client voting approval to be implemented.
This expansion attempt marks another significant development following the increase of the Gas limit from 30 million to 36 million in February. Feist pointed out that the gradual increase plan allows enough optimization time for node operators. Meanwhile, developers are testing the EIP-9678 proposal, intending to initially achieve a fourfold increase in the Gas limit with the Fusaka upgrade by the end of 2025.
