Bessant and Musk sparked a power struggle, and the head of the IRS will be removed from office
according to AXIOS website citing five informed sources, the acting commissioner of the US Internal Revenue Service is about to be replaced. Prior to this, Treasury Secretary Besent complained to President Trump that the agency's latest leader was appointed at the behest of Musk without his knowledge. Besent believes that Musk bypassed him and appointed Gary Shapley as the acting head of the IRS, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Treasury Department. Sources said that Musk's Department of Government Efficiency pushed for this appointment through White House channels, without consulting Besent or seeking his approval.
