Trivago users will be able to choose Travala hotels and pay with cryptocurrency

Travel planning site Travala, which accepts cryptocurrency payments, has teamed up with trivago, which has added an additional 2,2 million properties to its hotel search platform.

When trivago users select a Travala hotel, they are redirected to a site where they will have the option to pay in Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and dozens of other cryptocurrencies.

The Travala team has already struck similar deals with other services, such as last September with search sites Skyscanner and in November 2023 with Kayak. The agreement with trivago expands the possibilities of using cryptocurrencies in the real world for booking hotels and paying for flights.

Singapore-based Travala, founded in 2017, also allows users to earn rewards in Bitcoin or Travala's native token AVA, which has fallen more than 50% this year after hitting a three-year high of more than $13 on December 3.

The Travala team is currently in talks to sell, having received takeover offers late last year.

Kayak owner Booking.com (BKNG) was one of the contenders, but ultimately decided to pass on the potential acquisition.
