Perplexity launches Sonar, an AI-powered search API
On January 22nd, TechCrunch reported that Perplexity launched the Sonar API on January 21st, allowing businesses and developers to integrate their generative AI search tools into their own applications. Sonar supports real-time networking and retrieves answers from trusted sources to improve accuracy and authority. The API is divided into the basic version Sonar and the advanced version Sonar Pro, with the basic version costing $5 for every 1,000 searches and $1 for every 750,000 words of input and output respectively. The Pro version charges $3 for input and $15 for output, supporting complex questions and more references. Companies such as Zoom have already provided real-time search support for their AI assistants through Sonar, without users having to leave the video conference window.
