South Korea imposes sanctions on North Korean cryptocurrency hackers and IT personnel
the South Korean government announced today that it has imposed sanctions on 15 individuals and one entity from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) who participated in illegal online activities, including cryptocurrency theft. The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that these 15 North Korean individuals have been working for the 313 Bureau under the machinery and industry department of the Workers' Party of Korea. The department has been sanctioned by the United Nations Security Council since 2016 and is responsible for North Korea's weapons production, including its ballistic missile program.
