Bitcoin ATM operator, Byte Federal, has disclosed a data breach that impacted approximately 58,000 customers. The breach was caused by an unauthorised individual who exploited a vulnerability in GitLab, a software platform used by Byte Federal. The attacker was able to access sensitive customer information including personal details, government-issued ID numbers, and cryptocurrency transaction histories. Byte Federal has taken steps to address the breach, including resetting all customer accounts and updating internal passwords. GitLab has urged users to update their systems immediately after a critical vulnerability was discovered in the platform, which could allow an attacker to take control of a user's account.
