The company highlighted that this approach aims to create long-term value for its shareholders, considering Bitcoin’s growing role as a reserve asset. Since July 2024, when it adopted this strategy, Semler has consistently expanded its Bitcoin reserves, establishing itself as one of the companies with the largest exposure to crypto assets in the health technology sector.
Financing Through ATM Offering To facilitate its acquisitions, Semler used funds from an at-the-market (ATM) offering, conducted in partnership with Cantor Fitzgerald & Co. Initially planned to raise $50 million, the offering was increased to $100 million due to strong market demand. To date, the company has raised $79,8 million in gross proceeds, allowing it not only to acquire Bitcoin but also to maintain liquidity for other corporate initiatives.
Performance Metric: BTC Yield Semler also introduced the BTC Yield metric as a unique indicator to measure the ratio of its Bitcoin holdings to outstanding shares. Since the inception of its cryptocurrency treasury strategy, the cumulative BTC Yield has reached 78,7%, with a 54,7% increase in the most recent quarter. While not a traditional financial indicator, BTC Yield reflects how Bitcoin acquisitions are aligned with shareholder equity.
At the time of publication, the price of Bitcoin was quoted at US$101.147, up 5.4% in the last 24 hours.
Diversification and Risks Beyond cryptocurrencies, Semler is exploring new financial horizons. The company recently applied for permission to trade options on its shares, reinforcing its diversified approach to asset management. However, the company acknowledges the challenges associated with the volatility of the cryptocurrency market and its reliance on share sales to fund new acquisitions.
