New York Mayor Adams: Satisfied with His Cryptocurrency Salary Decision
as the price of Bitcoin has risen to nearly $100,000 this year, New York City Mayor Eric Adams expressed satisfaction with his decision to receive cryptocurrency as part of his salary. "Remember when you all laughed at me when I first got paid in Bitcoin? Who's laughing now?" he said at a press conference on Tuesday.
When Adams took office in January 2022, he exchanged approximately $30,000 of his salary for Bitcoin and Ethereum for the first three months. According to the latest financial disclosure statement, his Bitcoin holdings are worth between $5,000 and $54,999 by the end of 2023.
In addition to Adams, Miami Mayor Suarez and Belgian parliament member De Beukelaer have also chosen to receive their salaries in Bitcoin.
