Solana-based memecoin platform Pump.fun disables live streaming feature indefinitely
Quick Take Individuals deployed live streams for increasingly “heinous” purposes to boost their token’s valuation, including reports of child abuse, bestiality and threatening suicide.
The Solana-based memecoin platform Pump.fun on Monday indefinitely disabled its live-streaming feature after a reported influx of abusive content.
Pump.fun initially rolled out the live streaming feature earlier this year to let users promote their memecoins. However, individuals deployed live streams for increasingly "heinous" purposes to boost their token's valuation, including reports of child abuse, bestiality and threatening suicide.
"To ensure the absolute safety of our users, we will be pausing the live streaming functionality on the site for an indefinite time period until the moderation infrastructure is ready to deal with the heightened levels of activity," the Pump.fun team wrote in a community notice . "Moving forward, we will be significantly more transparent about rules and regulations of using the site by publishing guidelines. We will also provide creators and users greater visibility into individual moderation decisions to ensure everyone understands the process and outcomes."
The Block reached out to Pump.fun for comment.
Pump.fun is a launchpad for Solana-based memecoins, letting users easily create their own tokens. The platform accrued $5.31 million in daily revenue on Nov. 24, The Block's Data Dashboard shows.
