Trump picks North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum to lead Interior administration
Trump has chosen Doug Burgum, the Governor of North Dakota, to lead the Department of the Interior. This move puts one of Trump's former main competitors in charge of the department. Governor Burgum of North Dakota became a billionaire from scratch after selling his software company, which was a factor that helped him establish a relationship with Trump. Trump once viewed Burgum as a potential opponent in the 2024 election. If approved by the Senate, Burgum will manage over 500 million acres of federal land, as well as underground fossil fuels and minerals, making him a key component of Trump's promise to increase oil and gas production.
