Layer 1 blockchain from Kakao and LINE launches mainnet, invites Telegram-style apps
Quick Take Kaia, the Layer-1 blockchain from messenger app giants Kakao and LINE, announced its mainnet launch. Kakao’s messenger app of the same name is used by 96% of South Korea, while LINE is the dominant messenger in Japan. Kaia builders will be able to build Telegram-style apps on LINE messenger.
Kaia, the Layer-1 blockchain from two leading messenger apps in Asia, announced its mainnet launch — slated for 10 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday.
“The Kaia mainnet will go live on August 29 as the world’s fastest EVM blockchain with one-second finality, ultra-low gas fees, and support from leading Asian web3 partners including Kakao and LINE NEXT,” the press release said.
Kaia was introduced in April amid a merger between Kakao’s Klaytn and LINE’s Finschia. Kakao operates a messenger app that is used by 96% of South Koreans, while LINE is a dominant messaging platform in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand. The two apps have a combined user base of over 250 million, the press release said.
The Layer-1 blockchain is expected to tackle challenges in web3’s user experience and distribution through its deep integration with Kakao and LINE messaging apps. It ultimately aims to establish an ecosystem that supports DeFi, gaming, real-world assets and web3-based messenger apps.
Call for builders
Kaia seeks to enable builders to create mini dApps on LINE messenger through its NEXT WEB software development kit (SDK), where it said it seeks to bring a “Telegram-style native app integration.”
“Leveraging Kaia’s low TX latency, account abstraction, and fee delegation features, developers can create end-to-end seamless UX while extending their reach to hundreds of millions of LINE users across Asia,” the release said.
Kaia Wave, a builder support program, also accompanies the mainnet launch. Eligible teams using the NEXT WEB SDK will receive marketing, tech, and business support worth $1.2 million per team. Additional benefits include future token generation events and liquidity support.
Meanwhile, HashKey Global crypto exchange announced Wednesday the listing of the Layer-1 blockchain’s new token, Kaia. Users will be able to trade the token from Aug. 29, and the exchange said it will offer eligible users a chance to win 75,000 KLAY in a limited-time event.
