Ethereum core developers disclosed a security vulnerability during the Dencun upgrade, which has now been resolved
Ethereum core developers have disclosed a security vulnerability in the Ethereum mainnet during the recent Dencun hard fork. This vulnerability can be exploited to execute denial of service attacks. The reason for the vulnerability is that different RPC communication message size limits were established after the merge. This vulnerability allows certain clients to create blocks that exceed the RPC size limit, while still being valid for other clients, thus disrupting consensus. It may lead to chain splits and potential reward losses for block proposers. The developers resolved the vulnerability by standardizing and increasing the RPC message size limit for all clients.
