Guangxi Public Security Bureau uncovered a pyramid scheme involving virtual currencies on a live-streaming APP, with the amount involved exceeding 30
According to the Legal Daily, the Hechi Public Security Bureau in Guangxi province has cracked down on a direct sales case involving virtual currency live-streaming shopping apps. The suspects used an app called "Dimension" to create groups and live-stream shopping, and developed a pyramid scheme to recruit people and offer rebates for online registration. They promoted virtual services through the app's in-app purchase function and distributed rewards in the form of "Dimension Coins" set by the platform. They also heavily promoted electronic commerce, virtual currency, and national projects, among other things, to cover up the fact that they were profiting from developing downlines. In mid-November 2023, after careful surveillance by the police, a new network pyramid scheme case involving more than 3 billion yuan and 3.5 million members was successfully cracked down on. As of last month, 13 people involved in the case had been arrested, including 7 who were detained, 5 who were released on bail, and 1 who was transferred for processing. The case is currently being further perfected with relevant evidence materials and is under trial and transfer.
